Chapter 1. Introduction

Murders are a dangerous, but an intriguing aspect of the criminal system. Female murderers are even harder to understand. Females do not fall into the same patterns as male killers do. Because of gender-stereotyping, research and studies regarding this topic have only recently, within the past fifty years, been conducted. In this short amount of time, researchers have been able to come up with some possible theories why women might kill. With understanding of the crime and why it might be committed, the system may be able to find ways to prevent these tragic events from happening.
